Basecamp Expeditions was founded on a simple but powerful belief: the relationship between fathers and sons shapes lives for generations. Our founder, Jeff, established these programs after experiencing firsthand how wilderness challenges created transformative moments with his own father.

Our Mission

We combine true backcountry adventure with intentional curriculum designed to develop character, build relationships, and create memories that last a lifetime. Our expert guides are not just outdoor professionals, but mentors skilled in facilitating meaningful conversations between fathers and sons. Every expedition we lead is built on the core values of integrity, perseverance, gratitude, and responsibility - timeless principles that help boys become men of character and purpose.

Our Approach

Our methodology integrates authentic wilderness experiences with purposeful conversation and reflection. Unlike typical outdoor programs focused solely on recreation or skills, Basecamp journeys create intentional spaces for fathers and sons to connect deeply while navigating both physical and relational challenges. This dual approach transforms what could be simply an outdoor trip into a life-defining journey that strengthens bonds for years to come.

Meet Jeff - Founder & Lead Guide

My journey with wilderness began in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) of northern Minnesota, where my father first took me when I was twelve. Those trips - paddling pristine lakes, portaging canoes through ancient forests, and sharing stories by campfire - fundamentally shaped my understanding of manhood, resilience, and the father-son relationship. Each summer expedition built upon the last, creating a foundation of trust and shared experience that continues to anchor our relationship today.

That foundation sparked a lifelong passion for wilderness adventure, leading to more than 30 years of backpacking and camping experience across North America's most challenging terrain. From extended solo treks to guiding groups through remote backcountry, these experiences honed not just my outdoor skills, but my understanding of how wilderness creates space for transformation.

Outside of Basecamp Expeditions, I serve as a project manager at an engineering firm, bringing the same attention to detail and thoughtful planning to our expedition programs. I'm also a published author, exploring themes of character, wilderness, and relationship through my writing. At home, I've been blessed with nearly three years of marriage to my wife Deidre, and we're excitedly preparing for our first child. We're active members of Midlothian Bible Church, where the values that guide Basecamp Expeditions are reinforced through community and service.
